Kismat me meri chain se jeena likhde
Write into my fate a life lived in peace and quiet contentment
Doobe nah kabhi mera safeenah likh de
And decree that my vessel never sinks — no matter how rough the waters
Jannat bhi gawarah hai magar mere liye
Heaven itself would not be turned away — but if I dare to wish for more...
Ae kaatib-e taqdeer madina likh de
O Scribe of Destiny, write Madina as my final destination
Write into my fate a life lived in peace and quiet contentment
Doobe nah kabhi mera safeenah likh de
And decree that my vessel never sinks — no matter how rough the waters
Jannat bhi gawarah hai magar mere liye
Heaven itself would not be turned away — but if I dare to wish for more...
Ae kaatib-e taqdeer madina likh de
O Scribe of Destiny, write Madina as my final destination
In Islamic belief, Kaatib-e-Taqdeer refers to the angel who records each soul's fate before birth. To ask him to write Madina is to ask for the most blessed of endings — to die in or be drawn to the city of the Prophet ﷺ.
Tajdar-e-haram, ho nigaah-e-karam
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary, turn your merciful gaze upon us
Hum ghareebon ke din bhi sanwarjayenge
Even our wretched days will find their light, if only you look our way
Haami-e-be-kasaan kya kahega jahan
O Protector of the helpless — what will the world say of you
Aapke darr se khaali agar jayenge
If we are turned away empty-handed from your door?
Tajdar-e-haram Tajdar-e-haram
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary, turn your merciful gaze upon us
Hum ghareebon ke din bhi sanwarjayenge

Tajdar-e-haram Tajdar-e-haram
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
Koi apna nahi gham ke maaray hain hum
We have no one to call our own — grief has hollowed us out
Aapke darr pe faryaad laaye hain hum
And so we bring our desperate plea to your door alone
Ho Nigah-e-karam, warna chokhat pe hum
Grant us but one merciful glance — or else, right here on your threshold
Aapka naam le le ke marjayenge
We will breathe our last, with your name on our lips
Tajdar-e-haram Tajdar-e-haram
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
We have no one to call our own — grief has hollowed us out
Aapke darr pe faryaad laaye hain hum
And so we bring our desperate plea to your door alone

Tajdar-e-haram Tajdar-e-haram
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
Kya tumse kahoon aye Arab ke kunwar
What words can I even offer you, O Prince born of Arabia
Tum jaanat ho mann ki battiyaan
When you already know every whisper hidden in my heart
Darr furqat toh aye ummi-laqab
In the anguish of your absence, O bearer of the title "The Unlettered"
These sleepless nights refuse to end — each one heavier than the last
Turi preet mein sudbud sab bisri
In the ocean of your love, I have lost all sense of myself
Kab tak ye rahegi beqabri
How long must I wander in this restless, unmoored state?
Daah-e-ka pigan duzdi da nazar
Steal a glance toward me, just once
Kabhi sun bhi toh lo humri battiyaan
And lend your ear to what this longing heart has to say
What words can I even offer you, O Prince born of Arabia
Tum jaanat ho mann ki battiyaan
When you already know every whisper hidden in my heart
Darr furqat toh aye ummi-laqab
In the anguish of your absence, O bearer of the title "The Unlettered"
"Ummi" — commonly translated as unlettered or untaught — is one of the Prophet's ﷺ revered titles. It signifies that his wisdom came not from human learning but directly from the Divine, making the revelation uncorrupted by worldly knowledge.Kaate na katath hai ab rattiyaan
These sleepless nights refuse to end — each one heavier than the last
Turi preet mein sudbud sab bisri
In the ocean of your love, I have lost all sense of myself
Kab tak ye rahegi beqabri
How long must I wander in this restless, unmoored state?
Daah-e-ka pigan duzdi da nazar
Steal a glance toward me, just once
Kabhi sun bhi toh lo humri battiyaan
And lend your ear to what this longing heart has to say
Aapke darr se na koi khaali gaya
No soul has ever left your door with empty hands
Apne daaman ko bhar ke sawaali gaya
Every seeker who came, left with their robe filled with gifts
Ho habeeb-e-hazin
For this grieving, devoted lover of yours...
Ho habeeb-e-hazin par bhi aaqa nazar
O Master, spare even this broken one a glance
Warna auraq-e-hasti bikhar jayenge
Or the very pages of my existence will scatter and be lost
No soul has ever left your door with empty hands
Apne daaman ko bhar ke sawaali gaya
Every seeker who came, left with their robe filled with gifts
Ho habeeb-e-hazin
For this grieving, devoted lover of yours...
Ho habeeb-e-hazin par bhi aaqa nazar
O Master, spare even this broken one a glance
Warna auraq-e-hasti bikhar jayenge
Or the very pages of my existence will scatter and be lost

O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
Maikashon aao aao madine chalen
Come, O devoted lovers drunk on sacred longing — let us go to Madina
Let us go to Madina! Come, let us go!
Aao madine chalen, Isi mahine chalen
Let us go to Madina — let us go this very month, not another day wasted
Aao madine chalen, Haj ke mahine chalen
Let us go to Madina — let us go in the blessed month of Hajj
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
Maikashon aao aao madine chalen
Come, O devoted lovers drunk on sacred longing — let us go to Madina
"Maikash" literally means one who drinks wine, but in Sufi poetry it is a celebrated metaphor for one intoxicated with divine love — a devotee who has given themselves entirely to the beloved.Aao madine chalen, chalo madine chalen
Let us go to Madina! Come, let us go!
Aao madine chalen, Isi mahine chalen
Let us go to Madina — let us go this very month, not another day wasted
Aao madine chalen, Haj ke mahine chalen
Let us go to Madina — let us go in the blessed month of Hajj
Tajalliyon ki ajab hai fizaa madine mein
The atmosphere of Madina is suffused with a wondrous, otherworldly radiance
Nigah-e-shauk ki hai inteha madine mein
There, the yearning gaze finally finds its ultimate fulfillment
Gham-e-hayat na khauf-e-khazaa madine mein
In Madina, neither the sorrows of life nor the dread of death can touch you
Namaz-e-ishq karenge adaa madine mein
There we will offer the truest prayer — the prayer of love itself
Barah-e-raas hai raahe-e-khuda madine mein
And the path to God runs clearest and most direct through Madina
Aao madine chalen, chalo madine chalen
Let us go to Madina! Come, let us go!
Aao madine chalen, Isi mahine chalen
Let us go — this very month, not a moment's delay
Maikashon aao aao madine chalen
Come, O lovers lost in sacred devotion — let us go to Madina
The atmosphere of Madina is suffused with a wondrous, otherworldly radiance
Nigah-e-shauk ki hai inteha madine mein

Let us go and drink from the hand of the Cupbearer of Al-Kawthar
Remember — if he raises his eyes and looks your way, just once
Jitne khaali hai sabb jaam bharjayenge
Every cup that stands empty will be filled to the brim
Let us go and drink from the hand of the Cupbearer of Al-Kawthar
Al-Kawthar is the celestial river granted to the Prophet ﷺ in Paradise, described in the Quran. On the Day of Judgment, he will stand at its bank and offer water to his followers. To "drink from his hand" is the believer's deepest hope for that day.Yaad rakho agar, uthgayi ek nazar
Remember — if he raises his eyes and looks your way, just once
Jitne khaali hai sabb jaam bharjayenge
Every cup that stands empty will be filled to the brim
Taj dare haram Taj dare haram
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
Khof-e-toofan hai, bijliyon ka hai darr
We are afraid of the storm gathering around us, terrified of the lightning it carries
Sakht mushkil hai aaqa kidhar jayen hum
Our distress runs so deep, Master — where else could we possibly turn?
Ap hi na garr na lenge, hamari khabar
If even you will not look in on us, will not ask how we are
Hum musibat ke maaray kidhar jayenge
Then where does one crushed under the weight of calamity go?
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
Khof-e-toofan hai, bijliyon ka hai darr
We are afraid of the storm gathering around us, terrified of the lightning it carries
Sakht mushkil hai aaqa kidhar jayen hum

O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
Ya mustafa, ya mujtaba, eraham-lana, eraham-lana
O Mustafa, O Mujtaba — have mercy on us, we beg of you
You are the hand every helpless and broken soul reaches for — you alone inquire, you alone care
Mann aasiyam, Mann ajizam, bekasam, Haal-e-mara, Pursa tuhi, pursa tuhi
I am a sinner, I am weak, I am without a friend in the world — and yet you are the one who asks after me. Only you.
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
Ya mustafa, ya mujtaba, eraham-lana, eraham-lana
O Mustafa, O Mujtaba — have mercy on us, we beg of you
Mustafa means "the Chosen One" and Mujtaba means "the Elect" — both are sacred names of the Prophet ﷺ, invoked here in Arabic supplication.Dast-e-hama, bechara ra, Daama tuhi, pursa tuhi
Only you.
Aye mushtub-e-zambar fishaan
O musk-willow, forever scattering your fragrance
Paike naseem-e-sub haram
O gentle breeze of the sacred early morning
Aye charah-gar 'eesa-nafas
O healer of souls, you whose very breath carries the miracle of Jesus
O one who mends those broken apart by grief
Aye qaasid-e-parkhundapaye
O auspicious messenger, whose every step carries blessing
Tujhko usi gul ki kasam
I implore you by that very fragrance, by that sacred rose
Innil taya reehas saba
O morning breeze, when you travel
One day, to that hallowed and sacred land
Balligh salami roza tann
Deliver my greetings at the blessed resting place
Fi-han nabi-al-mohtaram
Where the most revered of Prophets lies in eternal peace
O musk-willow, forever scattering your fragrance
Paike naseem-e-sub haram
O gentle breeze of the sacred early morning
Aye charah-gar 'eesa-nafas
O healer of souls, you whose very breath carries the miracle of Jesus
"Eesa-nafas" — breath of Jesus — is a classical Persian poetic allusion to Christ's power to restore the dead to life. Applied to the Prophet ﷺ here, it speaks of spiritual resurrection — the dead heart brought alive through his grace.Aye musliheh beemar-e-gham
O one who mends those broken apart by grief
Aye qaasid-e-parkhundapaye
O auspicious messenger, whose every step carries blessing
Tujhko usi gul ki kasam
I implore you by that very fragrance, by that sacred rose
Innil taya reehas saba
O morning breeze, when you travel
This verse draws from a beloved classical Sufi convention — addressing the morning breeze as a messenger, asking it to carry one's greetings to the Prophet ﷺ. The image appears across Persian, Urdu and Arabic poetry for centuries.Yauman ila-ardil-haram
One day, to that hallowed and sacred land
Balligh salami roza tann
Deliver my greetings at the blessed resting place
Fi-han nabi-al-mohtaram
Where the most revered of Prophets lies in eternal peace
Taj dare haram Taj dare haram
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
Tajdar-e-haram, ho nigaah-e-karam
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary, turn your merciful gaze upon us
Hum ghareebon ke din bhi sanwarjayenge
Even our wretched days will find their light, if only you look our way
Haami-e-be-kasaan kya kahega jahan
O Protector of the helpless — what will the world say of you
Aapke darr se khaali agar jayenge
If we are turned away empty-handed from your door?
Tajdar-e-haram Tajdar-e-haram
O Sovereign of the Sacred Sanctuary
